Man City's Sergio Aguero hit with four-match ban

Man City’s Fernandinho is also in danger of facing further punishment.

SERGIO AGUERO HAS been issued a four-match suspension for violent conduct during his side’s Premier League clash with Chelsea over the weekend.

Aguero lunged at Chelsea defender David Luiz while the pair were racing for possession in the final moments of Chelsea’s 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium. The City striker was immediately dismissed for the high and late challenge and a fracas between both sets of players ensued.

Aguero and Luiz have a somewhat hostile relationship. Earlier in the game, Luiz was lucky to escape punishment after appearing to have obstructed the Argentinian as he was bearing down on goal. After the 2013 FA Cup semi-final, Aguero apologised to Luiz for a two-footed lunge at the Brazilian for which he miraculously evaded a charge from the English FA.

This is Aguero’s second dismissal so far this season, after he was given a retrospective red card for his challenge on West Ham’s Wiston Reid in August. It’s believed that his teammate Fernandinho is likely to receive a three-match ban for pushing Cesc Fabregas over some advertising boards in the scuffle that followed Aguero’s tackle.

Aguero will now miss City’s upcoming games against Leicester, Watford, Arsenal and Hull.
