'I will continue to take a lead': Serena Williams condemns Ilie Nastase comments

The World Number One quoted Maya Angelou in her response to the Romanian’s weekend rants.

SERENA WILLIAMS HAS volleyed back at Ilie Nastase, after the former Romanian pro commented on the race of her unborn child.

Williams also highlighted the sexism displayed by Nastase at the Fed Cup, where he bombarded female journalists and players with verbal abuse leading to a suspension from the International Tennis Federation while the matter is investigated.

“It disappoints me to know we live in a society where people like Ilie Nastase can make such racist comments towards myself and unborn child, and sexist comments against my peers,” the world number one and winner of 23 Grand Slams wrote on an Instagram post.

Before using a quote from the Maya Angelou poem ‘Still I Rise’, Williams vowed to “continue to take a lead and stand up for what’s right.”
