So she ordered herself a courtside coffee and went on to beat Flavia Pennetta in three sets at the Hopman Cup in Perth.
“Is it illegal to order an espresso?” a giggling Williams asked the umpire at the end of the first set.

Fortunately there’s nothing in the rules to prohibit it and the world number one went on to win the next two sets, dropping just three games en route to a 0-6 6-3 6-0 win.
