The Hammers eased him into action with a handful of appearances at U21 level and he was also on the bench for the FA Cup defeat against Nottingham Forest in January.
He has signed for the Bit O’Red until the end of July in a bid to play more competitive games.
“I want to prove what I can do,” the former Ireland U19 international said.
“All I want is competitive games and to do well for myself and Sligo Rovers.
I know the League of Ireland and I’ve missed it a lot to be honest. When I go back to West Ham I want to return knowing I’ve scored a lot of goals and shown what I can do.
Sligo boss Ian Baraclough has spoken to West Ham’s assistant manager Neil McDonald and first-team coach Ian Hendon and feels that the move will help Maguire to develop.
“Sean is excited to be here and the chance to show what he can do. I feel this football club has similar values to the club he is currently at and the style of play and it will suit Sean.
“The deal is until the end of July and the staff at West Ham are keen for Sean to come here and play first-team football as much as he can.”
