'A huge blow for us' - Sean Maguire out for eight weeks with hamstring injury

The Ireland and Preston striker is facing a spell on the sidelines.

IRELAND STRIKER SEAN Maguire is facing a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

It comes as a blow to the Preston North End star, who was well and truly on form of late, with manager Alex Neil confirming that he’ll be out for up to eight weeks.

Maguire, who moved to the Championship outfit from Cork City, limped off midway through the first half of Preston’s 3-0 win over Oldham Athletic on Saturday.

“Sean was taken off as a precaution, we didn’t think much of it,” Neil told the media of the 24-year-old this morning.

“Because of his history, we got him scanned and it’s come back a lot worse than what we thought. We will be missing for the best part of a couple of months.”

“It’s really bad luck, he was feeling the best he’s ever felt physically and now this has happened which is a huge blow for us and the club.”

Neil also confirmed that Billy Bodun suffered a knee ligament injury and will be out for six months, with Cork native Alan Browne adding:

“It’s always hard when your teammates get injuries, not just for the team but as people it’s never nice to see your mates in that situation,” the Ireland midfielder told the press conference.

“They are two valuable players for us but we need to put it to the back of our minds and do what we need to do.”
