Candystripes add Houston to their ranks

The talented midfielder links up with the FAI Cup winners from Bray Wanderers.

DERRY CITY HAVE announced the signing of Sean Houston.

The 23-year-old joins the Candystripes after an excellent season with Bray Wanderers – where he scored three times in 23 appearances.

A native of Donegal, the former Fanad United player, who can operate in midfield or at full-back, also had spells with Finn Harps and UCD before his move to the Carlisle Grounds in 2010.

Speaking to the Sentinel Derry manager Declan Devine said: “Sean is a quality player, who can play in a number of positions, but his best position is midfield,”

He’s a box to box type player, who can also play at in defence; in my opinion he was Bray’s best player last season, so I’m delighted to have got him and Paddy Kavanagh.”

The FAI Cup winners added Shelbourne winger Paddy Kavanagh to their ranks in recent weeks but look set to lose the services of Stephen McLaughlin, who is reportedly on the verge of signing for Nottingham Forest.

McLaughlin was on trial with the Championship side last week and, although there has been no confirmation of a deal yet, will soon learn whether he has done enough to secure a move after impressing manager Sean O’Driscoll.
