SEAMUS COLEMAN MAY be getting ready to fly out to Germany tomorrow for the Republic of Ireland’s 2014 World Cup qualifier on Friday.

But last Sunday in Ballybofey his focus was firmly on Gaelic football as he cheered on his native Killybegs in the Donegal county senior football semi-final.

The club from the fishing town on the south coast of Donegal defeated Malin by 0-11 to 1-7 to qualify for the final on October 20th.

And Everton star Coleman told Highland Radio after the game that it was tough watching on during a tense finale.

“I’d be more nervous watching the lads than I would be watching my own games. Thankfully they got over the line and they’ll have a county final to look forward to.

“When it’s Killybegs playing, it means a bit more. It’s something I was a big part of growing up, I played with all them lads. I’m delighted to see them get to a county final.”

It’s a remarkable achievement for Killybegs as they have lost all 14 of their Donegal league games this year but are now 60 minutes away from their first title at this level since 1996.

And with Everton playing Hull in the English Premier League on Saturday October 19th, Coleman will be free to travel home the following day for the decider with Michael Murphy’s Glenswilly team.
