Coleman misses Everton's pre-season tour through injury

The Ireland defender is staying at home instead of joining the club in Thailand after picking up a hamstring injury.

IRELAND DEFENDER SEAMUS Coleman won’t travel with Everton on their pre-season tour to Thailand as a precautionary measure after injuring his hamstring.

The Donegal full-back came off at half-time during the Toffees’ friendly with Tranmere on Tuesday night, which ended 2-2, while there was a return to action for Irish team-mate Darron Gibson after a nine-month lay-off.

Premier League club head off today ahead of a meeting with Leicester City on Sunday and manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that the former Sligo Rovers man is staying behind.

“He will miss the Thailand trip to give proper consideration to his injury, for proper treatment and to remove any chance of aggravating that feeling that he had,” Martinez said.

“We don’t really know the extent of the injury yet but it is sometimes a little bit of a setback that comes with pre-season preparation and getting a lot of volume into the bodies. Hopefully it is going to be just a minor setback.”
