Slammin' Sam Burgess was unleashed onto the sport of rugby union on Friday

Will Burgess be England’s answer to Sonny Bill Williams?

THERE IS AN awful lot of hype surrounding Sam Burgess’ transition from rugby league to union but anyone who has seen him in action can’t help but be excited about his potential to cause carnage in the 15-man game.

Burgess made his debut for Bath on friday and played in the centre after coming off the bench. While he didn’t do anything spectacular, he did show some nice touches.

Burgess’ union career might be in its infancy, but he has already drawn plenty of comparisons to famous cross-code stud Sonny Bill Williams.

And Burgess can always say that he is part of a select group of people that have physically bested SBW.

Burgess also produced the hardest rugby moment of they year after playing the entire NRL Grand Final with a fractured cheekbone.
