Ryder Cup stars move back to solo action at Dunhill

Westwood could go number one at the weekend with a top two finish.

THE TEAM GOLF of the Ryder Cup will be all but forgotten this weekend as nine of the victorious European team compete at the Dunhill Links Championship this weekend.

Lee Westwood will bid to become the world number one in Scotland, with only a top-two finish needed to move ahead of Tiger Woods.

Edoardo and Francesco Molinari will team up with ex-Chelsea footballer Gianfranco Zola in the fourball, while Colin Montgomerie is parnered by his brother Douglas and Graeme McDowell.

Westwood is paired with Rory McIlroy and tournament chairman Johann Rupert. The £3m event is held over three days at Carnoustie, Kingsbarn and St. Andrews.

Open champion Louis Oosthuizen was forced to withdraw through an ankle injury, but all European Ryder Cup players except Ian Poulter, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Luke Donald will compete.
