WALES MANAGER RYAN Giggs has insisted star player Gareth Bale remains happy and enthusiastic despite enduring a difficult season in Spain with Real Madrid.
His comments come amid claims that the Cardiff-born attacker has lost his love for the game following a tricky spell that has seen him lose his place in Realโs starting XI and found himself stuck on the bench.
Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane even refused to bring him off the bench in the final La Liga game of the season, denying the 29-year-old a potential farewell and later saying: โHe [Bale] has won a lot here, but we live for the present and the future.โ
The ยฃ85.3m signing from Tottenham has also become a target for the clubโs fans, with a recent poll revealing that only nine per cent of almost five million Real supporters want him to stay at the Bernabeu Stadium.
According to Giggs, however, Bale has lost none of his love for the game, and he has praised the former Southampton winger for his application and attitude ahead of Walesโ upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Croatia and Hungary.
โI saw him this week (at a training camp),โ Giggs told The Mail, โand he looked like he enjoyed football to me.
โHe was sharp, he wanted the ball, and he was practising his trademark of cutting in on his left foot. He scored a great goal.
โAfterwards, when a lot of the lads went in, he was practising his shooting, so that doesnโt strike me as someone who just wants to get off and go back to his room.
โIt struck me as a professional who still loves football.โ
Despite winning four Champions League titles, three FIFA World Club titles, a La Liga crown and the Copa del Rey since his arrival in 2013, Baleโs future remains unclear.
When asked if he was surprised by the criticism aimed at Bale, who has also scored over 100 goals for the club, Giggs said: โYes, but Iโm not over there.
โIโm not a Real Madrid fan. I donโt know the ins and outs and Iโm only looking from the outside.
โBut youโve got a player who won the team the Champions League final last year with one of the best goals youโve ever seen and performs for that team week in, week out.
โI remember the original Ronaldo getting stick off Real Madrid fans. I remember Cristiano (Ronaldo) getting stick early doors.
โItโs that kind of club, itโs a club like no other where the white handkerchiefs come out if they donโt like you. Thatโs just the way it is.
โBut we played a game (on Tuesday) and he looked really good, sharp and really fresh.
โIโm excited to see him in these two games.โ

He is playing more Golf than football these days .
Donโt know why he would want to stay there when he is so disliked by fans and not playing . Itโs not the money because he could get similar money elsewhere.
@Kevin McCarthy: I dunno about the money, heโs about 30 now, heโs always injured. Heโd get a few shirt sales but he wouldnโt have much influence any of the top teams around Europe.
Going back to spurs might be his best hope on reduced money , I donโt see United paying the wages as they got stung with Sanchez. Chelsea canโt sign anyone, Italy might suit him but theyโll kick his legs so often heโll be on the sidelines more often than not. That leaves France and Germany, Psg maybe, I canโt see any of ze Germans interested. If he could convince any club a fresh start would breathe a new lease of life into him then heโd be an asset to most teams I just donโt think his attitude his right at the moment.
@Kevin McCarthy: heโs not disliked by the fans , theyโre frustrated by his lack of consistency and the fact that heโs missed almost 40% of games through injuries .
@Limรณn Madrugada: booing someone in Spain doesnโt mean they hate you , it means they know youโre capable of much better and they donโt think youโre giving your best.
Nobody puts Baley in a corner
5M Real Madrid fans werenโt surveyed . But there are at least 10M Real Madrid supporters in Spain alone ( 47M pop.)
I donโt know if anyone suggested he didnโt like football anymore . Itโs clear he does . He just doesnโt realise that after 6 years at a club youโre no longer the new boy and you should be completely integrated in your environment , be able to talk to fans , be able at leat to say to the press that you donโt want to talk to them โฆ
