ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC defender Ryan Burke has signed a two-year contract with Birmingham City, and will move to England when the transfer window officially opens in July.
The 16-year-old has agreed terms with the Championship side, who are managed by Harry Redknapp, and leaves St Pat’s after helping the club to the SEE Airtricity League U17 Northern Elite Division title.

Burke played schoolboy football for Crumlin United before spending four years with St Joseph’s Boys, and it was there where he caught the eye of St Pat’s.
“As a club, we would like to thank everyone at St Pat’s and his former club St Joseph’s Boys for making the transfer go through as smoothly as possible, and allowing Ryan this opportunity,” Birmingham’s recruitment officer Carl McNally said.
“Both clubs were easy to negotiate with and had Ryan’s best interests at heart. Hopefully this can be the start of a great relationship between our two clubs.”
Speaking about his move to St Andrew’s, Burke admitted it has yet to fully sink in.
“Trying to be a professional footballer is an opportunity I’ve always wanted and I’m going to work as hard as I can now and hopefully make the most of it,” he said.
