AFTER A LENGTHY process, the Seattle Seahawks have finally locked down star quarterback Russell Wilson to a new four year contract, with his average annual salary working out to be the second highest in the league for his position.
His new deal will see him earn $87.5m over four years, $60m of which is guaranteed.

Wilson had told the Seahawks months ago that any contract extension would need to be finalised before training camp began and the two sides got it done on Friday with only hours to spare.
His fresh terms will run from 2016-19, ensuring he will stay in Seattle for years to come after his rookie contract expires following this season.
Shortly after word of the contract emerged through the media, Wilson tweeted:
Wilson has led the Seahawks to the Super Bowl during the last two seasons, winning one of them, and is 36-12 as an NFL starter. He will have the second-highest average annual contract value of any QB in the league once his extension kicks in.
At $21.9 million a year, his deal will be second only to Aaron Rodgers’ $22 million and ahead of Ben Roethlisberger ($21.85 million), Cam Newton ($20.76 million) and Matt Ryan ($20.75 million).
