Compound fracture puts Ruby Walsh out of the Gold Cup

The top jockey had a bad fall in the JCB Triumph Hurdle today.

RUBY WALSH IS out of this afternoon’s Cheltenham Gold Cup (3.20pm) after suffering a fall in the first race today.

The joint-leading rider at the festival with three wins came off  Abbyssial at the first fence in the JCB Triumph Hurdle and walked away from the incident holding his right arm.

“He has got an injury to his right arm,” Ruby’s father Ted told Channel 4. “He’s concious and everything else but he has gone to Gloucester Hospital to look after it.”

David Casey replaced him on Arctic Fire in the Handicap Hurdle and will do the same on Briar Hill in the Novice Chase while it hasn’t yet been announced who will ride On His Own in Walsh’s absence for the Gold Cup.
