Death Stare: Roy Keane, Lee Dixon and Gareth Southgate Roy Keane Quotes via Facebook

5 things we learned about Roy Keane today

The former Ireland skipper says his son is an Arsenal fan.

FORMER IRELAND AND Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane usually holds an annual state-of-the-nation press conference in Dublin to promote the Irish Guide Dogs’s Shades campaign. Not so this year.

Today FM’s KC Show was granted the only radio interview with the Corkman. These are your half a dozen take-aways.

5. He’s enjoying his freedom

But it took some getting used to after hanging up his boots and leaving Ipswich.

“I think it’s very difficult at the start. As you say, I loved the training and the discipline and preparation. I suppose the ups and downs of football was something, obviously I had my share of injuries etc so it is a shock to the system at first I must say. I can clearly understand why ex-players struggle but obviously doing the bit of TV has helped my cos I get to see the odd game and it keeps the brain occupied,” he told KC.

4. His only son supports Arsenal

Wait…what? “I’m still trying to figure that one out,” says Keane.

On a related topic, Paul Weller’s son is a goth.

3. He now has ‘a couple’ of dogs.

2. Parents at his kids’ school have invited him to play five-a-side

“People have been brave enough to come up and ask me to get involved in different 5-a-side competitions,” he admits. “But I played a couple of charity games last year and I wouldn’t say that I’ve enjoyed them because I’ve picked up injuries. It’s not really on my agenda, I know people mean well when they ask but I think I’ve hung up my boots for good now.”

1. The TV work doesn’t compare to playing

And he said the trips — like Germany last week — are a two- or three-day commitment. And that seems longer when you’re rooming with Lee and Gareth, no doubt.
