Roy Carroll makes wonder save on the double to thwart Cavani and Forlan

The Northern Ireland goalkeeper also kissed the post after throwing himself to keep out the rebound.

ROY CARROLL’S FOOTBALL career will probably always be related to him spilling a Spurs lob over the Manchester United goal-line and getting away with it.

However, the Northern Irish goalkeeper has been stopping the majority of shots that have come his way during the nine years that followed Pedro Mendes’ goal that never was. This weekend, Carroll had a stormer for his country as they repelled Uruguay for over an hour in a pre-World Cup friendly.

Michael O’Neill’s men lost 1-0 in the end but it could have been a lot worse were it not for Carroll’s heroics in goal. Of his eight saves on the night, in Montevideo, a double stop to thwart Edinson Cavani and Diego Forlan stood out.

Christian Stuani’s goal on 62 minutes sealed victory for the home side, who face England in the World Cup later this month. You can check out the full video of the double save here:
