ROSCOMMON GAA SAYS it “condemns any behaviour” that puts match officials at risk following the news that GAA games in the county have been called off this weekend.

A meeting took place between referee representatives and the county board on Thursday night, with the Roscommon Herald reporting that it was decided referees would not officiate this weekend’s matches.

It means all senior, intermediate and junior championship games fixed for this weekend have been postponed.

Roscommon GAA have since released a statement in relation to the matter, saying that matches scheduled to take place this weekend have now been moved to 16, 17 and 18 September.

“Roscommon GAA have been informed by the Roscommon Referee’s Committee that they are withdrawing their services for all matches scheduled in the county for today, tomorrow and Sunday.

“The Referee’s Committee feel that this action is necessary to strongly condemn any form of violence, aggression or abuse towards match officials in the GAA.

“Roscommon GAA strongly condemns any behaviour that puts any of our match officials at risk.

“All matches that were due to be played this weekend will be rescheduled to the 16, 17 and 18 September 2022.

“All tickets that have been purchased will remain valid for the rescheduled fixture. Anyone requesting a refund please email – Administrator.roscommon@gaa.ie and include your order number.”

The assault in the U17 game between St Aidan’s and St Dominic’s in Ballyforan left the referee hospitalised.
