Roscommon and Cavan stay unbeaten at the top of Division 3 table

There were also wins for Longford and Limerick today.

ROSCOMMON AND CAVAN remain unbeaten in Division 3 of the Allianz football league as they picked up their fourth successive wins of the campaign this afternoon.

Roscommon won a high-scoring encounter that produced seven goals in Enniskillen by 3-17 to 4-10 against Fermanagh. Roscommon had to come behind to triumph after trailing by 2-6 to 1-7 at the break at Brewster Park.

Fermanagh got off to a splendid start with an early goal from Seamie Quigley but Roscommon hit back with Conor Daly finding the net. A Lee Cullen goal before half-time left Fermanagh two points in front at the midway mark.

Sean Quigley increased Fermanagh’s lead with a goal early in the second-half before Cathal Cregg netted for Roscommon. A third goal arrived from Enda Smith and despite Seamie Quigley bagging a late goal, John Evan’s Roscommon side held on.

They entertain Offaly next Sunday while Fermanagh, who are now sixth, travel to face Limerick.

Elsewhere Cavan were victors by 1-12 to 0-10 at home to Sligo. Niall McDermott’s second-half goal was crucial in enabling Terry Hyland’s side to triumph at Kingspan Breffni Park.

Sligo had lead 0-5 to 0-4 at the interval and were 0-9 to 0-5 to the good by the 42nd minute. But Cavan slowly reeled in their opponents before McDermott pounced for that vital goal in the 61st minute.

McDermott, Martin Dunne and Martin Reilly tacked on late points to seal victory for Cavan ahead of next week’s trip to face Longford, who were 1-15 to 1-10 victors away against Offaly today.

Offaly lead narrowly by 0-8 to 1-4 at the break with Seanie McCormack bagging Longford’s goal. The teams were deadlock at 1-10 apiece with 15 minutes left but Longford hit five points without reply in the finale to claim the honours.

The last game of the day saw Limerick claim a dramatic win over Wexford by 1-14 to 1-1-13. Wexford made the early running to lead by 1-8 to 0-6 at the break but Limerick slowly reeled them in at the Gaelic Grounds and it was Ian Ryan who notched the last-gasp goal that sealed their success.

Here’s the full list of the results from today’s games:
