British snooker player forced to explain the 'Isis' sponsor logo on his waistcoat

“It’s about being loyal to [a company] that has been loyal to me,” says Rory McLeod.

A BRITISH SNOOKER player was forced to defend himself after fans mistook a sponsor’s logo for support for the Islamic State terrorist group.

Rory McLeod, who is Britain’s only Muslim pro player, was questioned for wearing an “Isis” badge on his waistcoat at the Welsh Open.

The 43-year-old has been sponsored by Isis Business Solutions, an accountancy firm, for over 10 years.

After a barrage of comments, he took to Twitter to point people in the direction of the Northamptonshire company’s website.

“I’ve been wearing it for the past 12 years so when it came up about Isis and Syria and all this palaver, it was kind of upsetting really — me being a snooker player, a Muslim, with a beard, and wearing an Isis logo,” he told Mark Radford from Giftgnu.com.

“When Isis came along a year and a bit ago, it was a bit daunting travelling the world and wearing the logo. There were a couple of places where I got a little bit scared about wearing it because people might get the wrong idea.

“There was an occasion where I didn’t wear it, I got cold feet, but it’s about being loyal to [a company] that has been loyal to me.”
