Rory McIlroy's putter runs hot at TPC, Sawgrass as Martin Kaymer leads

The German is on course for a multi-million euro cheque and a return to the winners’ enclosure on the PGA Tour.

MARTIN KAYMER IS on course for victory at The Players Championship at Sawgrass as he leads Jim Furyk heading down the stretch. The German — 15-under after 13 holes — should confirm a place in his second Ryder Cup if he can finish steadily and clinch a competition often referred to as ‘the fifth Major’.

It has been a good day for Kaymer’s teammate from the 2012 Ryder Cup, Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman recorded a closing round of 66 to finish on 9-under. Putting was McIlroy’s bug-bear earlier in the competition but he was on top form in his final round.

This superb bunker shot sums up the great day Kaymer is having. It set up a birdie chance, on nine, that he tapped in.
