RORY MCILROY’S approach on the 18th hole in the final round of the Irish Open has been voted the 2016 Shot of the Year by European Tour fans.
A stunning shot from 252 yards left the county Down golfer within three feet of the hole for a closing eagle, as he went on to win the tournament for the first time in his career.
The 27-year-old, who also claimed the same title on the PGA Tour for his remarkable effort on the 16th in the Tour Championship, secured nearly a third of the votes, finishing ahead of Scott Hend’s albatross at the Shenzhen International.
