RORY MCILROY LOOKED like just a regular amateur on Friday when the world’s top-ranked player chucked his 3-iron into the lake on the eighth hole at the WGC-Cadillac Championships.

On Saturday, a scuba diver brought the club back from the depths of the lake known as the Blue Monster.

The host broadcaster showed vision of the diver entering the lake and coming up soon after with a club, which the commentators claimed had the same grip as McIlroy’s.

The importance of that grip was the fact that another 3-iron had entered the lake by the time the diver was called.

Marcel Siem produced a double-bogey on the seventh at Trump National Doral and furiously flung his club into the Blue Monster. According to the Independent, Siem’s playing partner Jason Day was heard to say: “He’s just done a Rory.”

Siem had a horrid third round, carding two bogeys and two doubles in his three-over 75.

McIlroy posted an even-par 72 on Saturday to sit tied for 12th at one under, 10 shots adrift of leader J.B. Holmes.
