Rory McIlroy conjured this monstrous putt from 68 feet on his way to exhausting victory

The reigning champion managed to push through after a relentlessly tight affair with Kevin Na.

RORY MCILROY IS attempting to retain his WGC-Dell Matchplay championship crown in Austin, Texas and conjured a magical moment during his must-win match against Kevin Na.

At the 9th, the 26-year-old birdied from 68 feet to take a crucial point in what proved an immensely tight affair.

McIlroy had some difficulty early on as he hit a six on the par-4 second but settled down later in the round with three birdies from five holes.

Still, Na was incredibly difficult to shake off and it was nip and tuck all the way through.

Ultimately, the match went to sudden death and after both parred the first, Na cracked first and bogeyed at the same hole where McIlroy doubled previously.

McIlroy will now play Zach Johnson in the last 16.
