Big blow for European Ryder Cup hopes as McIlroy beaten by Patrick Reed

That’s a big, big point for Davis Love.

DARREN CLARKE SENT Rory McIlroy out first this evening at Hazeltine to get Europe’s comeback charge going. But it hasn’t worked out like that.

The Northern Irishman has been beaten by America’s talisman, Patrick Reed after an incredible battle.

Moments earlier, the visitors had pegged back the Americans to within two points thanks to Henrik Stenson’s 3&2 win over Jordan Spieth.

Thomas Pieters then saw off JB Holmes 3&2 to get a little more blue on the board.

The score is now 10.5 to Europe’s 8.5.
