However, when the world number two made his first start with his new equipment maker at The Players Championship in May, only 13 of his 14 clubs were TaylorMade.
McIlroy had used an Odyssey mallet putter during the Players but, after testing out a whole range of Odyssey and TaylorMade putters, has settled on the ‘red mallet’ which is similar to one Jason Day plays with.
McIlory and Day are, of course, paired together — alongside Justin Rose — for the opening two rounds of the US Open.
McIlroy’s putter differs from Day’s in that it has a single line on the crown of the club to help line up his putting stroke.

“It’s awesome with the Spider because you set this thing up and you know exactly where you’re aiming, and it sits so square with that with that flow neck.”
