McIlroy three shots off the lead and perfectly placed at halfway point of Bridgestone Invitational

The 28-year-old is enjoying himself in Ohio.

RORY MCILROY IS well-placed heading into the weekend after a one under par second round of 69 left him three shots off the lead at the Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio.

After carding an opening round of 67, he followed it up with another solid showing on Friday to move to four under overall and well in contention to reel in current leader Jimmy Walker.

Heavy rain disrupted play at the Firestone Country Club in Akron but it didn’t seem to affect the elite.

Walker carded a superb round of 65 but, even still, he’s only two clear of overnight leader Thomas Pieters while McIlroy is part of a group, including Zach Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day that is lurking dangerously.

It’s all set up for an intriguing battle across Saturday and Sunday.
