Rory: 'Maybe hitting that tree root wasn't my brightest idea. I won't do that again.'

Rory McIlroy is planning some time away from golf – possibly with his new girlfriend – as he looks to get over his USPGA disappointment.

RORY McILROY ADMITS that he will think twice next time his ball lands next to a tree root, following the injury he suffered at this weekend’s USPGA Championship.

The US Open winner hurt his arm early in the first round at the final Major of the year, never fully recovering and finishing 19 shots behind winner Keegan Bradley.

“If I get myself in the position again where there’s a tree root right next to my ball I might think twice about what shot I’m going to play,” he said.

“I have basically played 70 holes out of 72 not at 100%, so it was frustrating not to be able to play the way I wanted to,” stated the Northern Irish star.

“But I got through the tournament. I was proud of that and I am looking forward just to taking a couple of weeks off and making sure that I come back fully fit when I’m ready.”

McIlroy, who has been spending some time with new girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki having dumped that nice Holly girl, is now planning a holiday.

“I’m going to go to Cincinnati for a few days – I hear it’s nice there this time of year,” he joked, probably before remembering his arm ouch and wincing a little bit.
