Confirmed: Rory Gallagher leaves Donegal backroom team as McGuinness eyes changes

Jim McGuinness’s right-hand man will not be returning in 2014.

RORY GALLAGHER WILL not return as a selector on the Donegal football team next season, it has been confirmed.

Gallagher has been Jim McGuinness’s right-hand man since 2011 and was part of the set-up that ended Donegal’s long wait for Ulster and All-Ireland titles.

The news comes just a few days after Donegal confirmed that McGuinness will stay on for the fourth and final year of his contract.

“CLG Dhún na nGall were informed this morning by Senior Football Team Manager, Jim McGuinness of his intention to make changes in his management and support team,” a statement from the county board reads.

“He subsequently confirmed that Rory Gallagher and Maxi Curran will not be involved in the Donegal management team for the 2014 season. Francie Friel, who was involved in the backroom team, will also not be involved in 2014.”
