West Ham peg back United after Rooney and RVP open up early lead

Can LVG’s boys hold out this time?

WAYNE ROONEY’S MEASURED finish on the half volley gave Manchester United an early lead over West Ham at Old Trafford.

The United captain met Rafael’s cross from the right just after the five minute mark and diverted his shot into the left-hand corner.

Robin Van Persie doubled the lead for the hosts in the 22nd minute. Ander Herrera won the ball in the final third before Falcao supplied the Dutch striker who fired a right-footed shot across the keeper into the same corner.

Eight minutes before half-time, though, United once again showed their vulnerability at the back. The normally reliable David De Gea failed to claim a corner in his six yard box and after Enner Valencia heads onto the crossbar Diafra Sakho nodded in the rebound.

Game on.
