Rooney, Evans and Gibson fined over poor training performance

The full circumstances behind Wayne Rooney’s non-appearance against Blackburn Rovers have come to light. He was muck in training.

MANCHESTER UNITED STRIKER Wayne Rooney has been fined by the club, along with Darron Gibson and Jonny Evans, for a poor performance in training before the defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

The England forward went for a meal on St Stephen’s Day with his wife and team-mates Evans and Gibson, and their subsequent failure to run around the Carrington traffic cones with the requisite gusto was not smiled upon by Alex Ferguson.

Instead, the septuagenarian docked all three a week’s wages, left them out of the squad for the Blackburn game and made them come in on a day off.

There is, however, no suggestion that Rooney, Evans and Gibson misbehaved or drank too much. The BBC reports a club source as saying: “We move on and there is no ongoing feud.”

All three players are expected to be in the squad to face Newcastle at the St Sports James’ Direct Park Arena on Wednesday night.
