George Hook meets his match as Ronan O'Gara makes RTÉ panel debut

The former Munster and Ireland out-half is a welcome addition to the national broadcaster’s rugby coverage.

FORMER IRELAND OUT-HALF Ronan O’Gara dressed to impress this afternoon as he made his debut on the RTÉ rugby panel.

O’Gara has joined George Hook and Conor O’Shea at Montrose to help analyse the Six Nations opener between Wales and Italy.

The straight speaking O’Gara was not backward about coming forward to challenge Hook on Ireland’s title chances. The former Connacht and USA coach said Ireland would not win the championship but could well win a Triple Crown. O’Gara snapped back that Ireland would definitely beat Italy at home so, added to Hook’s Triple Crown prediction, those four wins would give Joe Schmidt’s men a great title chance.

Hook, in return, was speechless and O’Gara flashed a knowing smile. Round one to ROG.

Following the match, which was won by the Welsh, Hook ribbed his fellow pundit for praising Warren Gatland’s men at half-time and criticising them after the final whistle. O’Gara was not finished yet. When talking about how Wales would be kicking a lot of up-and-unders at Rob Kearney, he joked that the Irish full-back would ‘be far busier than George’s make-up artist’.
