LONG BEFORE HE was the ice-cool veteran who dropped the goal that won Ireland a Grand Slam, Ronan O’Gara was a schoolboy with big dreams.
As an 18-year-old at Pres Cork, few things would have been more important than winning a Munster Schools Senior Cup, and he achieved that with his school friends on this day 20 years ago.
A few familiar faces feature in this photo.
That is Declan Kidney on the far left, Peter Stinger top left and Mick O’Driscoll in the middle of the back row.
It is funny how linked ROG is with Stringer and Kidney, having been involved with the duo in school, at club level and with the Ireland team.
O’Gara also won a Junior Cup medal in 1992.
Newcastle look safe now. Hopefully they will already be on holidays when Liverpool go there on May 5th. Either way I’d say Rafa won’t be trying his hardest to stop Liverpool if they are still in with a shout of the title then.
@Flaming Mo: I hope you’re right but Rafa’s as straight as an arrow and I can’t picture him telling a player to go easy can you?….it would be a bit like the time Kenny brought Blackburn Rovers to Anfield looking for a win to secure the premiership, no quarter given that day and none expected by Kenny, you play to win, that day Utd blew it themselves fortunately :)
