Roddick and Berdych crash out early

US star throws away tennis racket into crowd after loss. Hopefully it didn’t hit anyone.

Last night’s US Open matches saw two shock exits as home favourite Andy Roddick was defeated along with Wimbledon finalist Tomas Berdych.

Roddick was defeated by Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, 7-6 and in the process had a Serena Williams-esque outburst. After the American was called for a foot fault, Roddick shouted at the umpire.

“Not once in my career has my right foot gone in front of my left foot, never. That is unbelievable,” Roddick complained. “Why don’t you get some umpires who know what they are doing? 1-800-rent-a-ref.”

Michael Llodra was the player who knocked out Berdych, with a 6-4, 7-6 (6), 7-5 win.

Andy Murray progressed, beating Lukas Lacko 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
