ROBIN VAN PERSIE won’t be attending tonight’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in Zurich after picking up an ankle injury in Manchester United’s 0-1 defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford yesterday.
The Dutch striker will have a scan later today to assess the extent of the damage after being forced off with the complaint in the 61st minute of the clash.

Van Persie’s absence from tonight’s gala could be good news for Ireland’s Stephanie Roche.
The Dubliner is nominated for FIFA’s Goal of the Year along with Van Persie and Colombia’s James Rodriguez.
But with the United attacker now forced to miss the ceremony, it fuels rumours that it’ll be a straight shootout between Roche and Rodriguez for the Puskas Award.
