The veteran left-back has finally hung up his boots, following a distinguished career.

THE EX-WORLD Cup winner and Anzhi Makhachkala star Roberto Carlos has announced his retirement from football.

The 39-year-old defender is now expected to become the Russian club’s assistant coach.

“I have had talks to play a farewell match between Real Madrid and Anzhi,” Carlos told EFE, following the decision.

In addition to playing for a number of eminent clubs including Real Madrid and Inter, Carlos won 125 international caps for Brazil and was part of the squad that won the World Cup in 2002.
