McCarthy: three senior singles titles in a row. Paul Fitzpatrick

Robbie McCarthy is the All-Ireland handball champion again

McCarthy beat eight-time champion Eoin Kennedy in Williamstown earlier today.

WESTMEATH’S ROBBIE MCCARTHY sealed a third successive All-Ireland 60×30 Senior Singles title when he saw off a game Eoin Kennedy in the final in Williamstown, Co Galway.

The 26-year-old Mullingar right-hander took a 10-1 lead in game one but eight-time champion Kennedy came roaring back and levelled at 20-all, before McCarthy closed out the game with a precise pass shot down the left.

The second game was tight for long periods before McCarthy’s younger legs helped him pull away to seal a 21-20, 21-9 victory after a sensational match.

“Eoin was a great champion and came back this year with a bang. I learned a lot from him growing up, he was a fantastic role model, so I’m delighted to have beaten a player of his calibre.

“I’ll enjoy tonight and then focus on the doubles semi-final next week,” said McCarthy.
