THOUSANDS OF MILES from Dublin, Robbie Keane showed off the clinical finishing that his country missed last night.

A couple of hours after Ireland’s 2-1 defeat against Turkey, Keane starred in the LA Galaxy’s 4-1 MLS win over Philadelphia Union.

In the 64th minute, he pounced on a mistake by Sheanon Williams and raced clear to slot his shot between the keeper’s legs.

Yes, it still deserved a cartwheel.

But the big story of the night belonged to team-mate Landon Donovan who, days after being dropped from the US World Cup squad, made history with two goals to break the MLS scoring record.

Keane, who laid on the two assists, said: “I think the timing of it couldn’t have come any better for him.

“We all know that relationship between me and Landon has been fantastic the last few years, and we saw that again tonight.”
