Robbie Keane named on three-man shortlist for MLS award

Former Italian international Marco Di Vaio and Chicago Fire’s Mike Magee are the other two players in the running for the MVP prize.

IRELAND CAPTAIN ROBBIE Keane is in the running for the MLS Player of the Year award.

The 33-year-old striker, who announced that he has verbally agreed a new deal with LA Galaxy last week, has been shortlisted for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) prize alongside Montreal Impact striker Marco Di Vaio and Chicago Fire’s Mike Magee.

Keane finished behind the other two nominees on 16 goals for the season but did chip in with 11 assists as the Galaxy lost out to Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference semi-finals.

Former Juventus and Italy forward Di Vaio scored 20 goals in his second season in the league while Keane’s former team-mate Magee bettered that tally by one.

The winner will be announced on 5 December and if Keane is successful it will be his first time winning the award.
