ROBBIE KEANE HAS been named on as one of three finalists to win this year’s MLS Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

The Ireland captain has been in outstanding form for LA Galaxy this season — scoring 19 goals and chipping in with 14 assists. And the club could yet claim the MLS Cup as they face Seattle Sounders in the play-offs on Sunday.

Keane, who has yet to win the prize during his four years in the US after finishing runner-up to former team-mate Mike Magee in 2013, is joined on the shortlist by ex-Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins (Seattle Sounders) and Lee Nguyen (New England Revolution).  The winner will be announced on 3 December.

Meanwhile, former League of Ireland official Alan Kelly has made the shortlist for Referee of the Year.
