Robbie: 'I don't know who makes these f**king stupid decisions'

Keane furious with Major League Soccer after LA Galaxy game is played in sizzling conditions.

ON SUNDAY, ROBBIE Keane’s Los Angeles Galaxy played out a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire in a mid-afternoon Major League Soccer clash at Toyota Park and the Irishman was furious that the game went ahead to begin with.

The Windy City didn’t exactly stay true to its nickname with minimal breeze and sweltering temperatures. It got up to 33 degrees and players on both sides struggled in the extreme conditions with Galaxy defender Dan Gargan forced off before half-time due to exhaustion.

In a dour game, Jeff Larentowicz opened the scoring for the hosts with just over twenty minutes to go before Landon Donovan equalised shortly after.

Afterwards, Keane vented his anger at the league for allowing the game be played in the middle of the day, when temperatures were at their highest.

I don’t know who makes these fucking stupid decisions. Play a fucking game at three o’clock in the afternoon? Who wants to watch that crap?  Do you?  I don’t want to watch that crap.  These people who haven’t got a clue about soccer make these decisions when we play a game. Why not play at eight o’clock? It wasn’t on national television.”
As well as Dan Gargan having to be substituted before the interval, another Galaxy player Stefan Ishizaki complained of being unable to breathe properly for a ten-minute period of the first half. Keane was damning in his criticism and asked for the players’ voices to be heard before similar decisions are made in the future.
It’s so stupid.  They need to look at these games and use their head and be clever.  No player wants to play in that humidity. Everyone was affected by the heat. Why would you want to play at three o’clock in the afternoon? On the hottest day of the year so far here in Chicago, knowing it is going to be that hot. And you can’t blame the LA Kings- Chicago Blackhawks (ice-hockey) game because you didn’t know that was going to happen until two days ago. This is absolutely ridiculous. We have to stop. We have to listen to the players instead of listening to people who have never kicked a soccer ball in their whole life.”

Opinion: Keane has found contentment isn’t such a bad thing

It’s going to be an interesting season. It’s hard to call who’s going to win it since all the clubs change around so much. Dundalk should win it again on paper but this Cork side looks good. I really rated Bolger last season and thought he held pats together in midfield so with the players around him I’d say cork could be that bit harder to beat.

Are clubs still paying a yearly registration fee. If so what is it this year?

Hard to know if Dundalk will still have the hunger. Last season was all about becoming the first Dundalk team to win two in a row, this season, I think a decent run in Europe is the aim. Maybe that will affect our league progress. Having said that, it’s hard to see a better team in the league.

Maybe fix up the ground should be part of this seasons plan too for Dundalk with the recent success , it has to be the worst stadium in Ireland. How it got approved for European football last season still has me shocked.

Problem with lease that is preventing them from upgrading. http://www.the42.ie/dundalk-statement-oriel-park-2585281-Feb2016/

Have to agree with you, the stadium is in a shocking state. Unfortunately the leasing issue seems to be holding up any developments. Personally I’d love to see the pitch ripped up and a return to grass.
