A POST ON Twitter has led to speculation that Ireland captain Robbie Keane is on his way to play for LA Galaxy in the US.
If true, it means that Keane – who is currently under contract to Tottenham Hotspur – could soon be calling David Beckham his teammate.
Shaka Hislop, former Newcastle goalkeeper and now an analyst for sport broadcaster ESPN has set tongues wagging by tweeting last night:
Hearing that Robbie Keane is on a flight to LA Galaxy as we speak. SFX have the deal already done by all accounts.
Keane hinted earlier this week that his time with Spurs was up, while a move to Leicester was rumoured to be on the brink of being finalised. Keane has spent time with Celtic and West Ham during the last two seasons, on loan from Spurs.

The Irish Examiner reports that Keane has been linked with a move stateside over a year ago, but says that the move, if it happens, would still be a shock. The future of Keane’s spot in the Irish team could be called into doubt, although during the week it was reported in the Irish Independent that Keane had backed Giovanni Trapattoni to lead the team into the World Cup qualifiers.
If Keane was to go to LA Galaxy, he would be taking up one of three ‘designated player’ spots. Each Major League soccer team is allowed three players whose full salaries are not counted towards a $2,675,000 salary cap for the team. All three spots are currently filled on the LA Galaxy team, reports The Telegraph, by David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Juan Pablo Angel.
