ROBBIE KEANE SAYS the Irish squad remain focused on achieving their target of finishing second behind Germany in their World Cup qualification group.

Ireland beat the Faroe Islands 4-1 in Torshavn tonight to get their campaign back on track, after Friday’s drubbing in Dublin.

Speculation about manager Giovanni Trapattoni’s future marked the build-up to the game tonight, but the Ireland skipper insists he can’t see the Italian ‘going anywhere’.

“I think he was the manager after Friday’s game and after getting a great result tonight I can’t see him not being the manager to be honest with you,” Keane told RTÉ.

“Listen, our main aim has always been to finish second. We knew that Germany was going to be the main team and were going to finish first. And we’re still on course for [second]. We’ve had a good performance tonight from the lads, especially in the the second half. We knew if we got the first goal it would probably open the gates and that was the case.

“It was a good reaction by the players and did what we all wanted,” he added.
