Robbie Keane a doubt for crucial Macedonia game

West Ham striker will be sidelined for six weeks and may miss Euro 2012 qualifier.

ROBBIE KEANE may miss Ireland’s crucial Euro 2012 qualifier at home to Macedonia next month.

Giovanni Trapattoni’s skipper has been ruled out for six weeks with a torn calf muscle and is now a major doubt for the March 26 fixture.

Newly arrived from Spurs in January, Keane was taken off after 76 minutes of West Ham’s 1-0 home defeat to Birmingham City on Sunday.

Keane had made his debut for the club last week, playing 84 minutes of the 3-1 win at Blackpool, a game in which he contributed a goal.

Ireland warmed up for the vital game with Macedonia with a 3-0 win over Wales in the Carling Nations Cup opener on Tuesday.

Macedonia, were beaten 1-0 by Cameroon, meanwhile.

Is this a major set-back for Trap’s plans? Who would you play up front?
