LEGENDARY ARGENTINE MIDFIELDER Juan Roman Riquelme has announced his retirement.
The 36-year-old played for Boca Juniors in three different spells as well as Barcelona and Villarreal before moving to Argentinos Juniors in the final days of his career.
With his time at Argentinos Juniors coming to an end, the Number 10 was linked to a move to the United States, but the Argentina hero announced in an interview with ESPN in Argentina that he is bringing an end to his playing career.
“I have decided to no longer play football,” he said.
Riquelme won five league titles as well as three Copa Libertadores with Boca Juniors and also lifted the Intertoto Cup twice at Villarreal and was named Argentina’s player of the year four times, first in 2000 and last in 2011.

One of the finest passers and free kick taker the game has seen.Great natural footballer.
Something tells me the nutmeg above on the River Plate defender would be his favorite of the lot. Class act.
Best of luck ..You have always been the Juan ..
I’ll get your coat for you Mr. Specter
Never thought he was as good as they made out
He was, but another World Class player who had to live with the tag of being hailed the countries next Maradona. Ortega, Aimar, D’Alessandro to name a few, though there are so many more weighed down by this pressure. Instead of replicating his on field genius like Messi, most succumb to the trappings off the pitch that smudge the good name of el Diego.
I saw him do a banana shot down flower lodge one time
