BEING THE BEST player in the world doesn’t necessarily mean you will be the highest paid, as this list proves.
As accurate as his right foot has been for over a decade, David Beckham wouldn’t have been fit to clean Lionel Messi’s boots even in his heyday.
However, as a 36-year-old who has played in MLS for the past five seasons, Brand Beckham is still going strong – he earns over €5m more than the Argentine wizard.

Figures: Forbes
- 10. Samuel Eto'o - Anzhi Makhachkala1/10
The Eto’o figure sounded a bit low to me so I googled “Forbes highest paid footballers” and found that the original Forbes article is from April 2011. Not sure why it appeared on Business Insider yesterday, but it’s old news.
yup, Eto’o is reported to be on a basic salary of around €20m per year after tax
rehashed and lazy reporting.
