Rhode impress against Moorefield to set up Vincent's showdown

The Offaly champions will meet the reigning Leinster and All-Ireland champions on 14 December.

Rhode 1-15

Moorefield 2-4

RHODE WILL BE hoping that it’s fourth time lucky for them in the Leinster club senior football final.

The Offaly champions booked their place in the decider with an eight-point win over Moorefield in Tullamore.

The Kildare side were the winners when these sides met in the provincial final in 2006, the first of Rhode’s three defeats in the decider (2008 and 2010).

Pat Daly’s side will have a chance to right that wrong when they face the reigning Leinster and All-Ireland champions St Vincent’s on 14 December.

They dominated with the breeze at their back in the first half and took control when Anton Sullivan scored the game’s opening goal on nine minutes.

They led by eight at the break, 1-9 to 1-1, with Adam Tyrrell’s goal giving Moorefield a glimmer of hope.

Ronan Sweeney’s penalty on 43 minutes cut the gap to four points, 1-10 to 2-3, and Niall Hurley-Lynch followed up a minute later to leave a goal between the teams.

That was as close as Moorefield got. Sweeney was sent off for a second yellow as Rhode pulled away in the final quarter, holding the Kildare men scoreless while they put over five unanswered scores themselves.
