Resurgent Garcia back in top 20 after second win in a row

Sergio Garcia followed up his win last week by taking victory in the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama from compatriot Miguel Angel Jimenez.

SERGIO GARCIA PROVED that he really is back to his best by winning the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama, his second tournament victory in a row.

The Spaniard followed up his win at last week’s Castello Masters by holding off Miguel Angel Jimenez and catapulting himself back into the world’s top 20.

Garcia won by just a single shot, getting up and down in one from the rough on the last hole.

“I’m out of words,” he told Sky Sports afterwards. “It’s been an amazing two weeks.”

The 31-year-old has admitted that a slump that saw him fall out of the world’s top 75 nearly forced him to quit the game, but he is now eyeing a Ryder Cup spot.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s Shane Lowry managed a joint best of the day 67 to finish fourth overall, three shots behind Garcia. However, defending champion Graeme McDowell had a less than successful couple of days and finished bottom of those that survived the cut, with weekend rounds of 81 and 82.
