Westmeath star confirms horror injury that could scupper Aussie Rules dream

Ray Connellan was stretchered off before half-time during today’s Leinster senior football final.

WESTMEATH STAR RAY Connellan has confirmed that he suffered a broken leg during today’s Leinster senior football final.

The Athlone star was taken off shortly before half-time on a stretcher and revealed the full extent of his injury on Twitter.

Connellan, 21, recently spent a month on trial with Australian Rules Football giants St Kilda but this setback could scupper any hopes of a possible move Down Under.

Connellan was enjoying a fine first half against Dublin before he was injured and Westmeath suffered after he went off.

Lake County boss Tom Cribbin indicated after the game that Connellan had been offered a contract by St Kilda but that the player had not yet put pen to paper on a deal.
