Rás 2012: Lang wins the sprint to Gort

Switzerland’s Pirmin Lang is in the yellow jersey after today’s second stage of the An Post Rás.

SWITZERLAND’S PIRMIN LANG seized the yellow jersey after winning a sprint finish on today’s second stage of the 2012 An Post Rás.

Lang (Atlas Jakroo) led home the British pair of Dale Appleby (East Midlands Metaltek) and James Moss (Node4 Giordana) in a seven-man sprint as the race travelled west from Kilkenny to Gort.

Connor McConvey was the best of the Irish in seventh place while his An Post-Sean Kelly team-mates Sam Bennett and Gediminas Bagdonas finished at the head of the peloton 28 seconds back.

Seven riders now share the same time at the top of the general classification standings with yesterday’s stage winner Marcin Bialoblocki of Poland 12 seconds back in eighth place.

The race turns north tomorrow with a 145-kilometre stage from Gort to Westport.
