The latest Raheem Sterling transfer rumour could be the most ridiculous yet

At least they used a funny headline.

ONE OF THE most dominant Premier League storylines over the last few weeks has been the tedious ‘will he/won’t he’ discussion about whether Raheem Sterling will sign a new contract with Liverpool.

Sterling’s current deal doesn’t run out until the summer of 2017 so there is probably no need to pay that much attention to it at the moment, but the English papers are covering it regularly nonetheless.

The attacker has rejected Liverpool’s offer of £100,000 per week and is putting off further talks until the summer. Apparently, that has ‘alerted’ other clubs to Sterling’s possible availability.

Arsenal and Chelsea have been rumoured as potential destinations for the 20-year-old but The Sun have an even more unlikely story this morning.

Two things jump out here:

  1. That headline is brilliant and the sub-editor deserves a few attaboys from their boss.
  2. Is it really possible that Sterling would join Manchester United?

At this stage he is just being linked with almost every top team in the world and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of substance to any of the stories.

Brendan Rodgers keeps pointing out how much the youngster has grown under his tutelage and he might have a point.

Would a manager other than Rodgers allow Sterling to go on a mid-season jolly to Jamaica and sign off on such a floppy sunhat?

And he was lucky not to get his contract cancelled after his incident in the summer of 2012.

We’ll see how it plays out but it wouldn’t be surprising at all if Sterling just signs an improved deal in the summer.
